Omar Almaini

Omar Almaini Welcome to my home page. My research is focussed on the formation and evolution of galaxies. I lead the UKIDSS Ultra-Deep Survey, the deepest ~1 square degree survey of the distant Universe. I also serve on the Executive Committee of the CANDELS consortium, the largest project in the history of the Hubble Space Telescope.

I teach undergraduate physics and astronomy, including a 3rd year course on Extreme Astrophysics and 1st year Quantitative Physics. I am also Postgraduate Tutor for the School of Physics & Astronomy, responsible for the training and welfare of our PhD students.

I obtained my PhD from Durham, after which I moved to Cambridge on a research fellowship. Following a postdoc in Edinburgh I obtained a Royal Society University Research Fellowship. I joined the Astronomy Group at the University of Nottingham in 2004 and was promoted to Reader in 2007 and full Professor in 2013.

You can find my academic publications here.
