Information for students with disabilities
The University of Nottingham and the Department welcome applications from all students. We have more than 1,250 students at the University with disabilities and our aim is to provide a high level of support and guidance from the moment you first enquire to the moment you graduate.
What you need to do
It is your responsibility to ensure that the University is aware of your individual requirements. Students who have a disability, specific learning difficulty (such as dyslexia) and/or long-term medical condition are urged to inform their personal tutor and/or Helen Smith, the School Disability Liaison Officer. The Department and School ensure that personal information remains confidential, but any information regarding necessary support is shared on a need-to-know basis.
What we can offer you
The University has a Disability Policy Advisory Unit which assists in the development of University policy and procedures relating to disability and their compliance with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001.The University’s Disability Plan for Students, Disability Equality Scheme, Disability Statement and [dis]Ability Directory, which lists all the provision available at the University, can be accessed from the Disability Policy Advisory Unit's website.

Academic support
Academic Support in Student Services (B Floor Portland Building) includes the Disability Support and Dyslexia Support teams, and offers a range of academic and practical support for all students. Academic Support can provide information about Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA's) and, as a registered National Network of Assessment Centre (NNAC) , the assessments required by Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
