About the Department of Art History

The vibrant Department of Art History is located in the University’s custom-built Lakeside Arts Centre providing an excellent environment to support both undergraduate and postgraduate study in art history and visual culture. 

Although small, the Department of Art History is an energetic and distinguished group of eight full-time academic staff and three support staff. It offers a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in art history and visual culture, as well as providing supervision for postgraduate research.

Teaching Quality Assessment (QAA)

The Department of Art History scored 23/24 in the latest audit on teaching quality by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education .

 

Research in the Department

Nottingham's Department of Art History has a dedicated research institute, the Nottingham Institute for Research in Visual Culture (NIRVC), which co-ordinates all research activities of the department and organises a vibrant and on-going programe of seminars, symposia and conferences. Research Assessment Exercise 2008

In the 2008 RAE, the Department at Nottingham has achieved a high score in the Research Assessment Exercise carried out within British universities. More about the Department's RAE performance .

 

The Djanogly Art Gallery

The Djanogly Art Gallery, located in the departmental building, has built an excellent reputation for the exibitions it has organised, and these shows help compliment the research and teaching of the Department of Art History. Previous exhibitions have included:
