Prizes and Publications

We are delighted to report that the British Pharmacological Society Bill Bowman Travelling Lectureship for 2009 has been won by Dr Steve Briddon.   This follows on from Dr Jill Baker's success in winning the BPS Novartis Prize for 2009.

Well done to Paul Tisdale, postgraduate student in the School of Biomedical Sciences who has won a Keystone Symposia Travel Prize to attend the Keystone Conference on Adipose Tissue Biology in Colorado, USA, in 2010.  Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology is a distinguished organisation in the United States set up to advance knowledge and understanding of the biomedical and life sciences to the international scientific community.

The Guide to Receptors and Channels, published by the British Journal of Pharmacology , is edited by Dr Steve Alexander, School of Biomedical Sciences, Alistair Mathie and John Peters.  The Fourth Edition has just been published (November 2009) and is freely available online .  This authoritative but user-friendly publication allows a rapid overview of the key properties of a wide range of established or potential pharmacological targets.  The information is provided succinctly, so that a newcomer to a particular target group can identify the main elements 'at a glance'.
