Study Volunteers & Body Bequest
We regularly need healthy volunteers to take part in research studies. These studies are an important part of the School’s research, and it’s hoped that they will ultimately lead to new insights into human metabolism, physiology and treatments.
All studies are approved by the Medical School’s Ethics Committee and are supervised by medically qualified staff. Inconvenience allowances are usually paid to volunteers, the amount depending on number and length of visits, and the type of interventions required. Typical interventions might include exercise tests (usually cycling or treadmill), blood samples, muscle biopsies, breath measurements, muscle strength tests, nutritional supplementation or body scans. We don’t test new drugs.

Body donation
Bodies are used by the University to teach students about anatomy. We believe this is an important part of training the doctors and scientists of the future. If you would like to donate your body after your death, you can download more information below. Please note that bodies are not used to research specific diseases or illnesses, nor are they used for organ transplant.
