Biography

In September 2008 Dr Angeli Santos was seconded from the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations at the University of Nottingham (UK) to be Director of Studies of the Institute at the Malaysia Campus. Angeli completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines in 1999, and later that year, pursued her MSc in Occupational Health Psychology at the Institute in Nottingham. After completing her MSc in 2000 Angeli then stayed on at the Institute as a PhD student and was later appointed as a research associate. She completed her PhD in Applied Psychology in January 2004. At UNMC she is also Course Director for the MSc in Occupational Health and Safety Leadership and the BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology and Management Studies.

Current Research

As a researcher she worked on a number of projects on work-related violence and occupational stress in the police service which formed the basis for her PhD on Coping, support and the consequences of work-related violence to UK police personnel. Since her PhD, Angeli has led and or been involved with a variety of projects focusing on the police the world over. Within the violence research agenda, she has completed projects on the evaluation of conflict management training for healthcare staff and the design and delivery of workplace violence training for rail transport staff. Angeli's research experience in applied psychology has been wide ranging; from projects examining the impact of environmental design on health and well-being, the influence of health and safety cultures on health and accidents, and the identification of potential barriers to career-decision making. She has published in a number of books and academic journals on these topics and regularly presents at major international conferences.
