Welcome to the School of Chemistry

The School of Chemistry at Nottingham has a reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. Our teaching is EXCELLENT as assessed by The Teaching Quality Assessment, and the results in the 2008 RAE Exercise have propelled Chemistry at Nottingham into second place in the national rankings between Cambridge and Oxford. RAE2008 judged 85% of our research activity to be 'internationally excellent' or 'world leading'.

Student fees and finance for 2012/13

The University of Nottingham has announced plans to set undergraduate fees for full-time home and EU students at £9,000 from 2012. Fees do not have to be paid up-front and a generous package of bursaries will be available to support home students from lower-income families. Well over a third of our students will be eligible for our core bursaries, which offer up to £3,000 for each year of undergraduate study.

The BBC Two programme Stargazing Live (Jan 16th-18th) stimulated huge national interest and attracted millions of viewers. This TV coverage and a local Star Party in Wollaton Park highlighted important links with astrochemistry and the University of Nottingham.

Dr. Andy Teale joins the School with a Royal Society University Research Fellowship, and will be investigating the development and implementation of extensions to density functional theory to tackle systems with several near-degenerate electronic configurations
