Prof. Sir Martyn Poliakoff elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering

Description
Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff CBE FRS, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering for his pioneering work in supercritical fluids which was judged "to combine engineering and chemistry in a highly imaginative way". Election to the Royal Academy of Engineering is one of the highest honours for an engineer in the UK, and there are now 10 Fellows at Nottingham including emeritus professors, underlining the quality of engineering research at the University.

Reactions in tiny containers – towards the world's smallest coaxial cable

Description
A team in the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham have developed a new approach for the preparation of a coaxial cable around 50,000 times narrower than the width of a human hair. This miniscule wire – comprising a carbon nanotube located inside a boron nitride nanotube – can be produced on a preparative scale and may represent an important step towards the miniaturisation of electronic devices.
