All my research until recently has focused on the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the development process and with an emphasis on how FDI affects the process of technological change in the midst of economic transition (when countries move from one economic system to another). This question I have investigated for various countries, in particular Poland, Cuba and Turkey are cases that I have studied in depth in the past. Having lived and worked in countries such as Turkey and Malaysia has made me increasingly interested in the role of institutions for economic growth and development. Institutions and institutional change (or economic transition) is a major theme now in my ongoing research about Turkey and more general cross-country research using firm-level, regional level and country level datasets.
