Biography

Markus joined the School of Economics in September 2011 as a Lecturer in Economics. Prior to coming to Nottingham he held an ESRC post-doctoral research fellowship at the Centre for the Study of African Economies in the Department of Economics at Oxford, where he also completed his PhD. His first degree was in Modern Chinese Studies and he has spent over three years studying and conducting research in China.

Markus undertakes the following administrative roles within the School of Economics:

In 2011/12 Markus teaches development issues (L14005 Economic Policy Analysis, L14050 Development Policy Analysis), applied econometrics with Stata (L14009 Economic Data Analysis) and how to write an empirical thesis (L14099 Economic Research Methodology) to students on the Masters programs.

Current Research

Markus' research focuses on productivity analysis at the macro and micro level, including the development and application of novel empirical methods. Currently he works on the patenting behaviour of Chinese firms and the development of diagnostic tests for macro panel regression models. Markus is a research associate at the Centre for the Study of African Economies, University of Oxford and at Nottingham is an internal research fellow in the Centre for Research in Economic Development and Trade (CREDIT), the Granger Centre for Time Series Econometrics and the Leverhulme Centre for Research on Globalisation and Economic Policy (GEP).
