Masters in Educational Research Methods

The MA in Educational Research Methods is an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) recognised course designed to cover ESRC training guidelines and to give a foundation for further training during subsequent research or higher degree (e.g. PhD ).

 

The course is more than methods training – it offers you a broader appreciation of the nature, design, location, contexts and dissemination of educational research.

Entry Requirements

To register for the integrated modular Masters/Diploma scheme, you normally need to be: 

  • A graduate of this or an approved university holding a Bachelor’s degree (normally first or second class Honours or equivalent) or institute of higher education.
    OR 
  • A holder of an approved professional qualification equivalent to a first degree.

International students whose first language is not English are required to provide evidence of competence in English i.e. a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with 6.0 on the written test), or equivalent.

 

Applicants whose first language is not English must, as a minimum, fulfill one of the following conditions:

  • IELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element)
  • TOEFL 87 (no less than 21 in listening and writing, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking)

Dr Gordon Joyes
Course Leader: Masters in Educational Research Methods

Dr Gordon Joyes is Associate Professor in eLearning. He was the e-portfolio consultant for the Joint Information Systems Committee (2007-9) advising on national policy and strategy. He was Project Manager for the University of Nottingham based HEFCE-funded eChina-UK Projects (2004-8) and Project Director of the HEFCE funded V-ResORT project (2004-9). His current research interests lie in learning design, collaborative working in learning design, effective support for online learning and personalisation of e-learning. Gordon is a member of the School of Education's Centre for Research in Higher, Adult and Vocational Education.
