Lecturer in Geomechanics, Faculty of Engineering
Tohid Kazerani received his BSc in Civil Engineering and his MSc in Structural Engineering from Tehran Polytechnic. He went on to earn his PhD degree in Rock Mechanics from the Swiss Institute of Technology at Lausanne (EPFL). He joined the University of Nottingham and NCG as an Assistant Professor in 2011 where he currently is the Lecturer of Geomechanics.

His main research interest is in brittle material fracture under dynamic load. His research is centred in numerical modelling using discrete element method to investigate the micromechanics of failure and to understand how processes at microstructural level control material macroscopic strength. Currently his main focus is the strain rate dependent behaviour that rock and concrete demonstrate against impact loading. The laboratory data for this research will be supplied by a modified split-Hopkinson pressure bar which is planned to be installed at NCS.
