The School of English houses four interdisciplinary Research Centres and a Research Institute:

• Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics (CRAL)
• Centre for the Study of the Viking Age (CSVA)
• The Centre for Regional Literature and Culture (CRLC)
  Incorporating:  
  - Byron Centre for the Study of Literature and Social Change (BCLSC)
  - DH Lawrence Research Centre (DHLRC)
• Institute for Name Studies (INS)
