Student Activities Unit

Students at Freedom of Expression Festival

The Human Rights Law Centre enjoys and encourages the participation of students in its research and project work. The Centre’s dedicated Student Activities Unit aims to broaden students’ experiences of human rights issues, research and practical work by facilitating a range of opportunities for their involvement in HRLC activities. It regularly advertises openings for student research assistants and interns to contribute to the HRLC’s diverse project work, as well as offering bursaries for external internships. The Unit also co-ordinates a number of popular student-led initiatives, including the Human Rights Film Series and the annual Student Human Rights Conference.

Activities

  • Annual Student Human Rights Conference - This annual event is one of the longest running Human Rights Conferences run by students. Held each spring it is organised by a student committee with the support of HRLC, focusing on a current challenge facing the practice of human rights law.
  • Human Rights Film Series - The Human Rights Film Series is a student-led initiative started in 2006 by two LL.M students. Now a hugely popular and regular campus event, the Film Series shows engaging and provocative films which bring challenging human rights issues to life.
  • HRLC project work – The Unit annually advertises several student research assistance positions and paid summer internships to University of Nottingham students, as well as bursaries to help finance external internships.
