David co-founded the Human Rights Law Centre in 1993 and has served as Co-Director since that time. He taught Public International Law at the University of Nottingham for 40 years before becoming Professor Emeritus in 2003. David is a Senior Expert for the FRALEX project of the EU’s Fundamental Rights Agency, for which he leads a team of HRLC legal experts in producing reports on fundamental rights issues in the UK.

David has served as a member of the Committee of Independent Experts of the European Social Charter. He has also acted as a consultant for a number of Council of Europe projects advising accession states on implementing the European Convention on Human Rights. He has published a number of key works on the ECHR and international law, most recently the Second Edition of Law of the European Convention on Human Rights (with Michael O’Boyle, Ed Bates and Carla Buckley).

Michael joined the Human Rights Law Centre as Co-Director in 2003 when he was appointed as Reader in International Human Rights Law at the School of Law. In 2007 he was appointed Professor of Applied Human Rights. In 2008 he was re-elected for a second term as Member of the UN Human Rights Committee. He acts as advisor to numerous UN agencies and NGOs.

Michael is a member of advisory boards of the European Roma Rights Centre, Budapest; Diplomacy Training Programme, Sydney; National Forum for Human Rights, Freetown, Sierra Leone; and the University of Sarajevo Human Rights Centre, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His research interests are in the field of human rights, with particular reference to conflict and post-conflict situations and the law and practice of United Nations human rights treaty bodies. He has published extensively on these and related topics. His most recent book is The Professional Identity of the Human Rights Field Officer (Ashgate, expected January 2010).

Anne Lister (LLB, M.Phil., PhD (Nottingham)) has worked for the Human Rights Law Centre since 1993, and is a Senior Research Fellow. She has been the Assistant Editor of International Human Rights Reports and the Yearbook for the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture , both published by the Human Rights Law Centre, since their inception.

Carla Buckley (BSW (Hons, UNSW) LLB (UNSW) LLM (Cantab)) has been a Research Associate at the Human Rights Law Centre since 2006. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Human Rights Law Review . Previously she was  engaged in policy development, including drafting the first child-centred maternity hospital policy based on principles of international law and practised as a barrister in Australia.  Since 1999 she has acted as legal advisor in the conduct of human rights litigation before international fora .

Her publications include the first extensive study of litigation under the European Convention on Human Rights (2000).    Most recently (March 2009) she co-authored the second edition of Harris, O'Boyle and Warbrick:  Law of the European Convention on Human Rights (with David Harris, Michael O'Boyle and Ed Bates). She is also a commentator on the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights for the Oxford Reports in International Law.  She has taught in law schools in Europe and Australia, and regularly participates in international human rights law training courses for government officials, lawyers and human rights advocates. 

Agnes Flues has been working at the Human Rights Law Centre since January 2009, before which she was an intern for the International Criminal Justice Unit. She holds a European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation from EIUC, Venice, and a master's degree in International Relations and Human Rights from the University of Padua, Italy. Since beginning at the Centre, she has worked as a project officer on a number of HRLC projects, including the Seminar for Thai Court Officials on International Human Rights Standards and the Strategic Dissemination of the Guiding Principles for Human Rights Field Officers .

Rosemary provides administrative support for the Human Rights Law Review , Research and Training Projects, Student Activities  and website.

Tina provides administrative support for Publications , the Annual Student Human Rights Conference and Research and Training Projects.

Kobie provides administrative support for the International Human Rights Law Short Course , the Chevening Programme , the Human Rights Monitoring Summer School , Conferences and website.
