Applications are now open for the 16th International Human Rights Short Course, which will run from 28th September until 4th December 2009. The application deadline is 10th September 2009. The course is aimed at human rights field workers and desk officers, IGO and NGO personnel, lawyers and law enforcement officers, and gives a full overview of international human rights standards in practice, around the world. It is convened by Professor David Harris and Professor Michael O'Flaherty (UN Human Rights Committee). Run over three months, the short course gives participants an in-depth understanding of international human rights standards and the international machinery of the United Nations, Council of Europe, the OAS and the African Union. The course also shows how these standards are implemented and how they work in practice, including field visits to a prison, courts and NGOs. Classes are delivered by world experts and practitioners, and participants also engage in a number of human rights modules in the School of Law LL.M programme.
