FAQs
The following are intended to help to answer standard queries you may have before, during and after applying for a place on one of our Taught Masters Programme. We are always happy to answer additional questions you may have. We aim to respond to your enquiries within 48 hours.
What are the entry requirements for the programme?
Applicants to the programme are normally required to hold a 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in law or a related discipline (e.g. International Relations) before commencing the course. In addition, applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide evidence of proficiency. Find out more about how to
apply to the School of Law.
What is the closing date for applications?
31 May for entry in the following academic year (i.e. 31 May 2009 for entry in the 2009/10 academic year). We are only able to consider applications submitted after the deadline if we still have places available.
What should I send with my application?
You should send two academic references in signed and sealed envelopes, a transcript of your first degree(s). If you have not completed your first degree, please send a transcript of your results to date. Applicants who first language is not English should also send evidence of English language proficiency.
I haven't taken an IELTS or TOEFL yet - can I still apply?
Yes. Any offer made to you would include the condition that you meet the minimum requirement before commencing the programme.
Do I need to send original documents?
We will be able to make a decision on your application if you send photocopies of your documents. However, should you be offered a place on the Taught Masters Programme, you will be required to produce original documents before registration.
I haven't got a Law degree - can I still apply?
Yes. We consider applicants from non-law backgrounds. We would, however, expect applicants for the LLM in International Commercial Law and Maritime Law to have some legal background.
Does the School of Law offer any Scholarships?
What are the fees for the programme?
Find out more about University
fees.
I have met the entry conditions but I am unable to take up my place this year. Can I defer my entry?
Normally, any offer is made for the forthcoming academic year only. In exceptional circumstances we may be able to defer entry. If you wish to request deferral, contact Pat Abbott.
