Division of Academic Radiology
Our mission is to use advanced neuroimaging for individualised therapy to improve public health. To this end we focus on addressing key diagnostic challenges in clinical neurosciences by developing endophenotypes and biomarkers to allow early diagnosis, to predict natural history risk, and to assess therapeutic responses.
We study patients from a range of diseases (stroke, neurodegeneration, brain cancer, mental health disorders, chronic pain), but adopt a symptom and outcome based rather than disease-specific approach. Research projects are early to late translational and transdisciplinary using latest knowledge in neuroimaging and neurosciences to discover, qualify and validate imaging markers.
The division works closely with clinical neuroscientists within the local NHS Trust, neuroscientists and MR physicists from within the School of Clinical Sciences and the Sir Peter Mansfield Magnetic Resonance Centre and is a member of the new ARC Pain Centre.
We offer an active postgraduate training programme for clinicians and scientists including a taught MSc Course in Translational Neuroimaging.
