Division of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care

The Department of Anaesthesia was established in 1986, prior to which the Department of Anaesthetic Studies had been incorporated within the Department of Surgery. In Autumn 2008  the Division of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care became part the new School of Clinical Sciences.

Paper examining research output sparks debate within anaesthesia field

Description
A recent paper by School of Clinical Sciences anaesthetists published in the British Journal of Anaesthesia has provoked debate within anaesthesia with two editorials published and discussion of its findings at the National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia.

Paper on hip fracture as predictor of early death risk post surgery published in British Journal of Anaesthesia

Description
A study led by Dr Iain Moppett using the Nottingham Hip Fracture Score to identify patients at greater risk of one year mortality following surgery has been published in the British Journal of Anaesthesia.

Clinical Sciences' anaesthetist awarded more than £1 mln in research grants from EPSRC and MRC

Description
The School of Clinical Sciences is pleased to announce that Dr Jonathan Hardman has been awarded more than £1 million in grants for his work on computational modelling from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Medical Research Council (MRC).
