Welcome to the Division of Respiratory Medicine. Respiratory research is a major area of strength within Nottingham. At the 2001 University Research Assessment Exercise Respiratory Medicine was flagged as 5* and there has been further development and expansion since 2008 with £6.1million of funding from the NIHR.
--Alan Knox, Head of Division
There are two main research areas within the Divison which are discovery science and translation. Asthma/COPD, Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and Cystic fibrosis are our main diseases of interest.
The Nottingham Respiratory Research Unit (NRRU) is one of the leading respiratory research units in the UK. Besides carrying out clinical research studies in all respiratory diseases, it aims to foster and promote collaborations with industry.
The NRRU research group provides an ideal environment for doctors, clinical fellows, nurses and postdoctoral/PhD students for their exposure to and training in translational respiratory medicine.
