Description

You are cordially invited to attend a brief introduction to epidemiological research using databases on Friday 19 March 2010 at 1000-1200 in Lecture Theatre 1 of the Medical School. Four academic members of the School of Community Health Sciences will give a brief overview as follows:

Professor Julia Hippisley-Cox :
QResearch which is a large consolidated database derived from the anonymised health records of over 12 million patients specialising in research and analyses using primary care electronic health data;

Professor Richard Hubbard :
The Health Improvement Network (THIN). THIN has created a medical research database of anonymised patient records from information entered by general practices in their ViSion systems;

Dr Joe West/Dr Tim Card :
General Practice Research Database (GPRD). It is the world's largest computerised database of anonymised longitudinal medical records from primary care that is linked with other healthcare data.

Refreshments will be available from 0945 and each colleague will make a presentation of approximately 15/20 minutes. This will be followed by a question and answer session.
