Biography

Mara worked for 12 years as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry. In 1997 she changed direction and became a clinical trial co-ordinator with the University of Nottingham, working on a large multi-centre, community-based study of antimicrobial treatments for mild to moderate acne. This trial completed in 2002, and was published in the Lancet (Dec 2004) and as an HTA monograph (Jan 2005), generating a lot of interest. Alongside her trial management Mara has delivered occasional lectures in trial management and statistical topics and in 2007 achieved associate teacher status.

Expertise Summary

Since 1997 I have been a clinical trial manager for the university, working on two different large clinical trials (acne and basal cell carcinoma. Previously I worked as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry. My experience includes trial design, database design, coordination of trials to GCP.

I coordinate the SINS trial (Surgery vs Imiquimod for Nodular and Superficial BCC). The trial has successfully completed recruitment of 501 participants. The primary analysis (3 year data) will be conducted in 2010.

Past Research

Prior to the current trial (SINS) I coordinated an HTA funded trial of antimicrobial treatments for acne. My role included creation of the database and an analysis of the data.
