Research Technician, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences
Margaret Lovell started work as a technician in1972 at Houghton Poultry Research Station. She spent 12 years working for Dr. H. Williams Smith FRS assisting in the study of Salmonella and E. coli and how they infected animal models, including pigs, poultry and calves. She was also involved in the work to try to establish bacteriophage therapy as a viable option for the treatment of animals. She then worked for Prof. Barrow at the above Institute and subsequently at the IAH, Compton, predominantly studying host-pathogen interactions using Salmonella infections in chickens as a model system. In 2006 she took a job as a junior technician at the Vet school.
Margaret is a junior technician in the School and is currently working predominantly in research. She is also, at present, working part time as the technician for the NUVetNA service that is being set up by Nigel Kendall.
