Biography

Peter Voigt obtained a Diploma in Biology from Humboldt-University in Berlin. He carried out research for a pharmaceutical company in Berlin and received his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) from Humboldt University in Berlin in 1990. He spent one year as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Goettingen/Germany and another year at the Oregon Regional Primate Research Center in Beaverton/USA. Following his return to Germany, he joined the Medical Faculty of the Humboldt-University in Berlin (Charite). Dr Voigt received a post-graduate degree in pharmacology (Specialist in Pharmacology DGPT) in 1997. He moved to the School of Veterinary Medicine, Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Freie Universitaet Berlin in 2000. He obtained his Habilitation (DSc) from Freie Universitaet in 2004. Dr Voigt joined the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science in 2007.

Current Research

I am currently investigating the effects of hyperenergetic diets on behaviour in rodents, including the role of nutritional programming. Behaviours studied are feeding behaviour, emotional behaviour and learning.

Past Research

Past research was focussed on feeding behaviour and the role of serotonin as a satiety factor. In addition, I studied anxiety-related behaviour, in particular the role of brain angiotensin in anxiety.
