Biography

Wendela Wapenaar graduated as a large animal veterinarian in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 2001. After a few months working as mixed practitioner in The Netherlands she moved to the Waikato, New Zealand to focus on dairy cattle work while still taking care of the companion animals of farmers. After 2 years thoroughly enjoying New Zealand, a new challenge appeared and she moved to Prince Edward Island on the Canadian East Coast where she completed a residency in Ruminant Farm Animal Medicine. At the same university she completed her PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology. Her research topic was the epidemiology of Neospora caninum in dairy cattle and wildlife on Prince Edward Island. After almost 4 years in Canada, it was time for a less snowy island and she moved to Market Drayton in Shropshire. She worked at one of the clinical associate institutions (Scarsdale Veterinary Group) dealing mainly with cattle and started at the Nottingham Vet School in October 2007 as Clinical Lecturer in Large Animal Medicine and Epidemiology. She became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP-Dairy Specialty) in 2007.
