Registration

Registration for the 2016/17 session

All students must register with the University when they first begin their studies and again at the beginning of each academic session.  All students need to register online  via the Portal, new full time students will also need to confirm their attendance  in person.

Registration deadlines

Returning students are required to register within 2 weeks of the course start date or a late registration fee of £60 may be charged. For students starting the course on 26 September, the deadline is Friday, 7 October.

New students should complete registration within 3 weeks of the course start date at the absolute latest or they will not be permitted to join the course. Information for international students arriving late to Nottingham is available on the Late arrivals page.

New students

This means students who are beginning a new programme of study at the University in 2016/17. It includes students who have previously studied at Nottingham but are beginning a new course at a different level (e.g. Masters students beginning a PhD). It excludes current students who are transferring to year 1 of a new course and students on courses with a Foundation year who are transferring to a degree programme retaining their old student ID number - they are considered to be returning students for the purposes of registration.  Foundation students who have completed their standalone Foundation course and are now starting a new course with a new student record are expected to complete both parts of the registration process.

Returning students

This means current students of the University and includes those on a year/semester out in 2016/17, those transferring to another course, Foundation year students transferring to a degree programme on the same student record, and those repeating a year.

Exceptions

Students in 'thesis pending' or with an extension to PGT dissertation are not required to register. Full-time students who are about to go into 'thesis pending' have the option to register if they wish - information is available on the webpages for research students or you can contact the Student Services team for further details.

What if I do not register?

  • Your registration will not be finalised nor your status as a student of the University confirmed until you have completed all the necessary stages of registration.
  • You will not have full access to the University's IT systems that you will need during your studies.
  • Student loans will not be paid until your registration is completed.
  • If you have not completed your registration within the advertised time frame a late registration fee may be charged. However, you should still register online after this date.
