Invigilation of University Examinations
The Academic Services Division provides an invigilation service for centrally scheduled main University examinations at the UK campuses.
For all centrally scheduled main examinations, Schools should ensure that the academic member of staff responsible for the paper being sat, or nominee, is either in the examination room at the start of the examination or is contactable by telephone during the first hour of the examination.
Where the central invigilation service is not used, Schools are responsible for supplying invigilators. Invigilators need not necessarily be academic members of staff and there is no requirement for the Head of School to provide the Academic Services Division with a written explanation for such use.
The School will be responsible for ensuring all School invigilators are competent and are aware of their duties and responsibilities. To assist with this responsibility, the Academic Services Division provides invigilator training during the academic year.
Where a School has supplied an invigilator, a member of the Academic Services Division will contact the School if the invigilator has failed to turn up for a rostered slot. In such circumstances, the School will be responsible for sending a replacement invigilator within a reasonable period of time.
