House-hunting

We understand that it can be daunting to find and secure the tenancy of a private house, but once you know what to do, it can be a straightforward process.

  1. Where to live? Think about which area would be most convenient in terms of location and facilities before you start.
  2. How to search? We recommend that you prioritise Nottingham Standard properties where possible. Remember there is a surplus of houses for students, so take your time and make informed and considered choices.
  3. Who to live with? Most students share accommodation with others and choosing how many to share with is an important decision. Between three and six is normally recommended as too few or too many will limit your choice of properties.  Remember that if house hunting as a group you will be signing a legally binding contract to live together for the year so be sure that you are happy with your group before signing.

If you need advice or if you want to get your contract checked before you sign it you can visit the Student Advice Centre in Portland Building, University Park.  For more details and advice, please see the Student Advice Centre’s housing page.
