Campus and Facilities at UNMC

Faculty of Engineering, Malaysia Campus
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) is set on a beautifully landscaped 125-acre site in Semenyih, 30km south of Kuala Lumpur. Occupying a scenic position overlooking green hills, the Campus is a self-contained and self-sufficient neighbourhood village in a garden environment. It combines a high quality living environment with state of the art learning and teaching facilities. The construction of the campus was jointly managed by The University of Nottingham and Boustead with funding coming from the joint venture shareholders.

Taking its design cues from University Park, Nottingham – with a signature building which echoes the Trent Building and a lake – the site has a modern, Asian feel. This architectural homage to Nottingham at the heart of the Malaysian campus, however, ensures the spirit of the University is visible to campus residents and visitors alike.

Residential accommodation is available both on Campus and in the neighbouring vicinity. The Campus has a purpose-built Mosque and a multi-faith centre, a community hall, a music room and theatre, jogging tracks, basketball courts, a swimming pool, a sports complex, and laboratories for computing, languages, science and engineering. 24 hour high speed wired and wireless networks are provided. Transport is available from the Campus to the nearest housing estates, bus and rail stations, providing easy access to Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding region.

The library at the Malaysia Campus is one of eleven branch libraries within The University of Nottingham. The core collection covers materials to meet the taught courses offered by the University, with generous allocations in developing resources required for research purposes. The library is also proactive in developing a wide spectrum of electronic resources and in promoting and guiding the use of information resources, including the provision of subject based reference enquiry services, Internet subject gateway services and subject focussed academic support services. Electronic resources are accessible not only via the networked computers within the Campus, but also remotely with appropriate security authentication. The Malaysia Campus librarian – Ms Khan – has been awarded the prestigious International Librarians Award in recognition of her work.

The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus recently hosted a ceremony to rename two key buildings at its Semenyih campus in honour of Sir Colin Campbell, former Vice Chancellor of The University of Nottingham, and Yang Mulia Tengku Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ahmad Rithaudeen, Chairman of the UNMC Board of Directors. The event was held to coincide with UNMC's 10 year anniversary celebration in Malaysia.

In order to allow UNMC to develop, additional land is being purchased to extend the campus to 125 acres and an option has been taken out on a further 200 acres across Jalan Broga. A significant building programme is being implemented to include sports facilities, an extended student association building, as well as more accommodation and academic offices.
