Research Interests
Geoffrey has been working on the publication of Names on Terra Sigillata (NOTS), an AHRC-funded project, being edited in nine volumes at the University of Leeds, due to the illness of the principal editor, Miss Brenda Dickinson.
The major focuses of Geoffrey’s work are:

To complete a chapter on the distribution of samian ware, which is to be include in the synthetic volume 10 of the NOTS project required under the AHRC funding conditions.

His main work will be to continue to edit and add vessels to the on-line data base maintained on the server by the Romische-Germanisches Zentral Museum in Mainz, which is also partner to the NOTS project (

Over the last 30 years, with the help of volunteers, he has recorded some thousands of samian vessels from the kiln site at La Graufesenque, and these are gradually being added to the Website. There is also important material collected at from the continental museums of Bavay, Châtillon-sur-Seine and Lyons to integrate.
