You can take a 20 credit module option in Underwater Archaeology in the second year or third year of the archaeology BA and BSc degrees. The undergraduate module provides a broad introduction to the current methods and practice of Underwater Archaeology. Rather than a specific time period or geographical area, the module focuses on themes such as lake dwellings, shipwrecks, submerged cities and sunken harbours. Case studies are used ranging in space from Scandinavia to Australia and in time from 1500 BC to the last century. Among the issues tackled are:

| The problems of conservation and wet finds processing. | ||
| Shipwrecks from 1200 BC: the ship as a symbol. | ||

Qualified divers will be able to take part on departmental projects (see Current Projects). It is possible to gain appropriate diving qualifications at a discounted student cost whilst studying at Nottingham by joining the Nottingham University Sub Aqua Club or the UARC PADI club.
