PhD Molecular Cell Biology and Biophysics

We exploit molecular, biochemical, biophysical and structural methods in our studies of membrane transport, cell communication and molecular toxicology. We combine many of these approaches with ultra-high resolution imaging technologies and cell biology to investigate function. We also have specific interests in the mechanisms whereby toxins perturb biological systems. Although we focus on fundamental biological questions, we are also interested in the applications of our discoveries to provide new technology and to improve human health.

We are funded by grants from MRC, EPSRC, BBSRC, The Wellcome Trust, the Royal Society and the RCUK Basic Technology Programme , and have extensive collaborations. Our laboratories provide a stimulating environment as well as providing excellent physical and intellectual resources for postgraduate and postdoctoral training.
