Biology BSc and MSci Hons

Our BSc and MSci Hons Biology degrees offer a broad training across the discipline of biology, reflecting the breadth of expertise of our academic staff. We deliver modules serving wide fields of study and ensuring the opportunity for specialism as you progress through your degree. You can also register for modules delivered by other Schools, either within or outside the sciences. Up to year two, students registered for the Biology degree have the option to switch to one of the other degrees offered by our School.

The Biology curriculum has been widely praised, and continues to improve as we solicit regular feedback from our students, graduate employers and external review panels. Our students benefit from a range of teaching and assessment techniques, helping them develop their transferable skills for the employment market.

Our degree provides excellent opportunities for field work and laboratory research. We offer alternative 3rd-year project formats for students whose interests lie outside laboratory research. Many of our biologists take the opportunity to participate in our study abroad programmes or undertake a year in industry during their degree. Through our MSci, those with a strong interest in research may opt to pursue a fourth year of study.
