Current Research

The research interest of the lab is directed in exploring how cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix regulates cell migration and cell fate through regulating the activity of signalling pathways and gene expression. This involves looking at the reciprocal relationship between the ability of cells to modify their immediate surroundings through the synthesis of extracellular proteins and extracellular proteases and how the composition of the extracellular matrix, in turn, influences changes in gene expression through the coordinated activity or numerous signal transduction pathways. Ongoing projects include (1)investingation of the signalling crosstalk that takes place between collagen binding integrins and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2; (2) exploring the role of Def 6, a small GEF in organisation of cell contacts between cells of the immune sytem and (3) determining the consequences of tyrosine phosphorylation of the actin-binding protein cofilin and its potential roles in regulating gene expression and apoptosis.
