International Students
An International Community of Scholars
The School of Biomedical Sciences has a vibrant postgraduate community. It has around 100 international students at any one time, a third of whom come from all over the world including Egypt, Libya, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and the Caribbean. Many arrive from the same institutions as former students who continue to share their positive experiences of their studies in Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Pharmacology or Physiology here at Nottingham.
Broad-based Research in Biomedical Sciences
We welcome international students who already have a clear idea of the area of Biomedical Science that they would like to study. International students make an important contribution to the groundbreaking research of the scientists as well as to the School community. Information about the major research interests of potential supervisors can be found through the links on the Research Projects page, or on the contact page for individual supervisors. Students can indicate on their application from a preference for research areas that they find especially interesting.
Comprehensive Support for International Students
The University of Nottingham offers an excellent support structure for international students through the services of the International Office and the Student Support Services. They offer advice and help with a range of issues including scholarships, funding, visas, accommodation, travel and health. Within the School of Biomedical Sciences, our current postgraduate students are very welcoming and informal mentoring of new students is provided by the second and third year students.
Scholarships
The majority of our international students have obtained scholarships from their native country. Scholarships providing partial support for international students are available from the University of Nottingham, but these are limited in number and are awarded on a competitive basis to high quality candidates. Further information about applying and funding is available from the International Office.
