FAQ

Below are the answers to some questions we are asked regularly

What do first years need to do to pass their exams?
Full details of the progression rules are in your learning and teaching document handed out during week in September. It is MODULE marks that count, NOT individual components of modules (exam vs coursework) unless you are a Master of Nutrition student, where at Part I, II and III you need to achieve a minimum of 35% in both your overall coursework mark, and your exam mark, as well as an overall module mark of 40%. Details can be found in course handbooks, see http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~sazintra//supportservices/undergrad/handbooks.htm

Extenuating circumstances form – who signs section A?
Your tutor or module convener could do this.

Are there any calculations in the exams that students will need to know?
You will have been told during the module introduction, all components of the module are examinable.

My draft submission on Turnitin gave a similarity index of 11% with a green label on it. I'm assuming this would be acceptable? Is there a percentage threshold that would be questioned?
It’s not really a question of the % figure. You need to view the actual report that will highlight those areas of text that are similar to previously-published work. It may not be a problem with, for example, references, table headings, etc. But just check to make sure that there are no lengthy sentence or paragraphs showing similarity.

Dissertation – What font, line spacing, format etc should I use?

Are there any project binding regulations? Can I use plastic binding?
There don’t appear to be any regulations on binding! Plastic would be fine.

Where can I get my dissertation bound?
The Student Guild Office (Amenities Building at Sutton Bonington Campus) offers a binding service. The SU Print Shop at University Park Campus also offers a service, see http://www.su.nottingham.ac.uk/barshops/printshop/

U21 - will it be possible to have a language module taught in the U21 University?
You should speak to your Course Manager for both Euro and U21.In the meantime, please have a look at the websites of the U21 Universities to see if they offer language modules.
