Teaching Facilities

The Rob Clarke Teaching Laboratory

The Rob Clarke Teaching Laboratory is a well stocked multipurpose facility catering for a wide range of practical teaching lessons.
Situated in the South Laboratory building, this provides practical teaching facilities for undergraduate students taking modules in Animal Physiology as well as some Masters students from the Medical School.
The laboratory was extensively refurbished in 2002 and a sophisticated Audio-Visual system installed in 2009. It can accomadate up to 85 students with screens and speakers ensuring that all students can see and hear what is happening. The AV system integrates with microscopes, a demonstration area as well as computers to ensure all students receive a high quality experience.
Facilities include over 40 microscopes, 24 PCs with data collection interfaces for a wide range of physiological signals, histology workstations, gas collection and composition analysis, exercise physiology apparatus, tissue baths for working with live tissue and more.

Housed within the Rob Clarke Teaching laboratory, this area houses a display of pathology specimens from various species that are pertinent to the topics being taught.

Research Laboratories

Undergraduate teaching also takes place in the 3rd year of the degree course in the research laboratories, where students work during the course of their research projects. These projects, which account for about 25% of the final degree mark, are designed to give students the opportunity to experience the excitement of carrying our original research.
