Graduate School course in Post-genomics and Bioinformatics
This three day course will introduce students to various leading edge technologies and techniques in molecular biology and bio-informatics and provide real research examples and allow the students to practice skills gained during the course by in-silico practical sessions. Students will also be given the opportunity to learn and practice group interaction and team-building skills including a short-deadline research and presentation task.
By the end of the course, students should able to identify on-line resources for genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics in a wide variety of species.
They will be able to take short DNA sequences and identify both perfect and homologous matches in external databases, use these matches to identify online data about transcription profiling of these genes and related genes, and use de-novo prediction programs to investigate the putative structures and functions of these genes
