Masters, PG Diploma and PG Certificate Courses
(see below for Sensory Science)
What Qualifications are Required?
Candidates will usually be expected to have an Honours degree in an agricultural, biological or other relevant science from a university recognised by The University of Nottingham. Applicants may be admitted on the basis of significant relevant work experience in lieu of an appropriate academic qualification which will be considered by the relevant Faculty Vice-Dean.
What Level of English Language is Required?
International and European students whose first language is not English are required to have an appropriate grade/score in an approved examination in English language before they can register on an academic programme. As a general guide the School of Biosciences accepts the British Council English Language Test (IELTS) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Test results should be no more than 2 years old.
Acceptable grades in English are:
GCE 'O' Level English Language: Pass (at least 'C' for those examined after 1975)
TOEFL iBT 87 (no less than 21 in listening and writing, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking)
IELTS*: Test band score of 6.0 or above with no less than 5.5 in any element
* This varies for the following courses:
-
MSc Crop Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship
-
MSc Applied Biomolecular Technology
-
MSc/PGDip Food Production Management
-
MSc Nutritional Sciences
TOEFL iBT 87 (no less than 21 in listening and writing, 22 in reading and 23 in speaking)
IELTS: Test band score of 6.5 or above with no less than 6.0 in any element
English Language courses for international students are run by the Centre for English Language Education at The University of Nottingham. According to their IELTS score, students may be eligible to enrol on a pre-sessional course, either for three months from July, or six months from January. Students who satisfactorily complete this course can then join an MSc in the School of Biosciences starting at the end of September. Full details of the English Language course will be sent to you on request.
