Post-genomics and Bioinformatics Short Course

Short Courses in Post-genomics and bioinformatics

Course Description

To introduce students to various leading edge technologies and techniques inmolecular biology and bioinformatics and to provide real research examples and allow the students to practice skills gained during the course byin-silico practical sessions. Students will also be given the opportunity to learn and practice group interaction and team-building skills including a short-deadline research and presentation task.

By the end of the course, students should able to identify on-line resources for genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics in a wide variety of species.

They will be able to:

  • Take short DNA sequences and identify both perfect and homologous matches in external databases
  • Use these matches to identify online data about transcription profiling of these genes and related genes
  • Use de-novo prediction programs to investigate the putative structures and functions of these genes
