The Smart Laboratory at the University of Nottingham has developed a number of novel PCR tests in kit form. The first series of kits, which have been specifically developed to allow the identification and discrimination of specific proprietary strains of yeast, have been designed to permit in-house analysis which will enable brewers and others in the field to validate their yeast strains rapidly before use in a fermentation system. The novel kits were launched at the World Brewing Congress 2008 held in Hawaii, and have already created great excitement in the industry. The Smart laboratory has initiated a development programme for a second set of kits to be launched at the European Brewing Congress in 2009. For more information concerning these new products please contact Katherine Smart. |
