Bridging the Gaps Plus

Bridging the Gaps has recently secured University of Nottingham Research Strategy Funds to expand the project to cover other themes and disciplines.

'Bridging the Gaps Plus' will run from October 2008 to September 2009, with a parallel programme of events, Bridging the Gaps Plus Awards and Visiting Scholarships, within the themes of the Digital Economy and Lifelong Health and Wellbeing.

The themes of 'Digital Economy' and 'Lifelong Health and Wellbeing' have been selected for Bridging the Gaps Plus due to their highly interdisciplinary nature and their relevancy to Nottingham's strengths in mathematics, engineering and computer science plus many other disciplines University-wide.

Bridging the Gaps Plus will cross-over with Bridging the Gaps in that the focus disciplines will remain as mathematics, computing and engineering, however the eligibility criteria used for awards will be thus: "At least one member of staff from mathematics, computing or engineering will create a new collaboration with at least one member of staff from any other discipline as appropriate to respond to the interdisciplinary challenges of the 'Digital Economy' and 'Lifelong Health and Wellbeing'.

The awards and visiting scholarships available through Bridging the Gaps will adopt the same strategy as previously: "At least one member of staff from each of two of mathematics, computing and engineering will create a new collaboration. A cross-engineering collaboration will also be considered."
