Bridging the Gaps and the Energy Technologies Research Institute (ETRI) held a series of six workshops in various energy themes. The workshops were well-attended, and all resulted in the creation of working groups to develop ideas further. In particular, ideas formed by the Carbon Capture and Storage working group, led by Prof. Mercedes Maroto-Valer, have been discussed with a major international company with the possibility of a joint research project in the modelling of carbon capture and storage. One aim of the workshops was to introduce mathematicians to energy research at Nottingham; and this was particularly successful, resulting in the 'Modelling in Energy' theme for the upcoming Bridging the Gaps sandpit.
