Industrial Economics - Research
The Division made a strong contribution to the Business School's excellent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) performance in 2008. We produced a significant number of world leading and internationally excellent publications and a very high proportion of our staff were included.Our research expertise is extensive and covers a variety of themes within the broad areas of industrial economics, industrial policy, and risk. Our main aim is to bring together theoretically grounded and rigorous economics, business and policy.
Our research includes work on the economics of:
- Innovation and policy
- Public policy (civil and criminal justice systems, taxation, gambling and betting
- Market regulation
- Behavioural and experimental economics
- Insurance and banking
- Corporate governance and executive remuneration
- Public and private sector risk management
We welcome Doctoral students in any of the above areas of Industrial Economics.

We run a seminar series at divisional level as well as more specialised study groups such as the Economics of Innovation Research Group (EIRG) or The International Centre for Behavioral Business Research (ICBBR)
We supervise a number of PhD students in various areas of industrial and applied economics. Most of our past students now work in governmental and private organizations, while others have joined leading universities.
