Energy Young Entrepreneurs Scheme

The Energy Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES) is an annual business plan competition designed to raise awareness of commercialisation amongst postgraduate energy researchers. YES was developed and is delivered by a partnership between The Network of Energy Doctoral Training Centres and the Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Energy YES 2014 took place from the 21st - 23rd May 2014 at Alstom Power in Rugby.

Energy YES is the first event of its kind specifically for the energy community. It offers participants a great opportunity to hone their business skills and the chance to compete for a prize. Participants are challenged to prepare a mock business plan to commercialise an idea and present it to a group of would-be investors. This all happens at a residential workshop packed with presentations and activities to help them really get to grips with commercialisation and entrepreneurship.

The presentations from leading business and industry figures cover a range of topics around commercialisation and technology transfer, including:

• Requirements of a business plan
• Intellectual property and patenting strategy
• Raising and managing finance
• Commercial and marketing strategies
• Real-life case studies from entrepreneurs
