Research Topic:
An Assessment of the age discrimination legislation 2006.
Research Details:
In October, 2006 the British Employment Equality (Age) Regulations, 2006, were passed into law, making illegal in employment and vocational training: discrimination, harassment and victimization of any person as a consequence of their age. This research examines with specific reference to older workers (i.e. defined as those aged 50 and over) the extent to which workplaces in Britain have made changes to their HR practices subsequent to the legislation and the extent to which the changes (or lack thereof) are attributable to the legislation. The specific HR practices explored are: recruitment and selection, training and development and redundancies. The methods to be utilised will be a questionnaire sent to British workplaces (a total of 2,000), followed up with an interview session intended to explore salient issues which responses raise, more fully. The workplaces to be contacted were obtained from Dunn and Bradstreet, and represent a randomly stratified sample, stratified to ensure adequate sample size across countries (Scotland, England and Wales), establishment sizes and industries.
