Research Topic:
Opportunities & Challenges for Green Supply Chain Management Practices in the Egyptian Cement Industry
Research Details:
As the world encounters numerous catastrophes due to global warming, people have become aware of the industrial pollution's role as a contributing factor to these environmental problems. Hence, there has been an initiative within the global markets for organizations to become more environmentally friendly. The importance of this issue has been identified both by scholars and practitioners and has thus raised the need for GSCM implementation, especially in highly polluting segments such as the cement industry. Which affect not only the environment, but also the people who come in contact with it. Egypt as a country is a main contributor to Middle Eastern and African cement manufacturing as well as affecting European environment through its polluting production processes. This research aims to identify the barriers and opportunities for organizations to become environmentally friendly through the implementation of GSCM practices, with the overall objective being the establishment of a guiding roadmap to aid organizations in the process and facilitate their "greening". If an energy intensive and highly polluting industry as cement can become environmentally friendly, then hopefully, so could all other industries.
