Research Topic:
Optimizing value recovery in closed-loop supply chain

Research Details:
Over the past 15 years, closed-loop supply chains (CLSCs) have gained considerable attention in industry and academia due to the growing environmental concerns (e.g. the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment WEEE Directive) and economic reasons (Gupta and Veerakamolmal, 2000). From an economical point of view, product recovery has potential to generate profit by taking back products from customers and recovering the remaining added value (Fleischmann et al, 2001). This PhD research will be conducted by utilizing various operation research methods to optimize recoverable manufacturing system. The attempt is to expose the best refurbishment option for returned products by considering the cost savings that managers can expect from the recovery policy in their reverse logistics channel. Additionally, the analytical model will be utilized to better understand the interactions of the various parameters and the underlying trade-offs of the closed loop supply chain processes.
