Tourism Management

Module Content:
This module will introduce students to the key management issues in the tourism industry. This will address the structure of the industry and its unique characteristics, in relation to the business environment and corporate strategy. The role of role of principals, intermediaries, the public sector, destination management bodies and non-governmental bodies will each by covered in an analysis of the industry. Financial management and organisational behaviour in tourism businesses will be examined, including key human resource management issues and the links between human resource management and corporate social responsibility. The role of individuals and teams will also be addressed through an applied group project.

Module Aims:
The aim of this module is to critically appraise the processes of managing tourism organisations at a private, public and voluntary level. The focus is on developing a practical and theoretical understanding of current issues facing tourism managers.

Module Assessment:
Individual Mid Assessment (1,500 words) (30%); Individual Final Assessment (1,500 words) (40%); Goup Final Assessment (3,000 words) (30%)
