Financial and Monetary Economics (E)

Module Content:
The module provides an understanding of the overall workings of the economy and government policies towards employment, output, inflation and the balance of payments, focusing in particular on the monetary and financial aspects and the determination of interest rates and exchange rates.

Module Aims:
1 To give an understanding of the overall workings of the economy and of the impact on it of government macroeconomic and financial policies.
2 To provide a broad understanding of the role and functions of the financial system in the economy
3 To focus on the monetary, financial and fiscal aspects of government policy, paying particular attention to the determination of interest rates, inflation rates and exchange rates.
4 To provide a brief introduction to contemporary macroeconomic and financial controversies.

Module Assessment:
Post-Module Individual Assignment 5000 words (75%); Group Presentations during module as result of researched Case Studies (25%)
